James and I got together in November 2016, then moved in together in March 2017. I was a mad few months, but that’s a story for another time, in June 2017 I went to my first Glastonbury Festival! We had an amazing time, there was cider, laughing and so many acts that it was impossible to see everything! It’s truly the most magical place on the planet. Like all festivals there’s vendors selling their wares and whilst walking around I came across a stall selling trinkets with the map of Glastonbury on top. I wanted something to remember this trip so I brought a little heart decoration which on top of the map said ‘Leave no trace’ which is the Glasto motto. This became our first Christmas tree decoration.
From then on whenever we visited somewhere, big trips and small, we have tried to look out for Christmas decorations to hang on out tree. After that first one came a Gaudí styled star from Barcelona and a drift wood heart from Brighton. We decided from then that’s what we’d do.
James lived on his own and had never had a full-sized tree before we got together so that first Christmas together we brought a tree, new baubles and lights and too add to it were these new decorations, all with their own memory attached. Every year since we have added new ones and it’s a really sweet way of looking back over the year, thinking, damn! was that this year?! and then as we put the ones from previous years on the tree, we remember past holidays, trips away and significant
