Ellie & Brad’s Vintage farm Wedding

Vintage Farm wedding

When Ellie and Brad approached me about shooting their wedding, the one thing that they talked a lot about is ‘Colour’ they wanted a colorful wedding photographer- having been at their wedding now I can see why! This beautiful vintage styled wedding was a vibrant celebration; the décor, flowers, bridesmaid dresses, everything about this wedding was fun and full of colour and in the end suited Ellie and Brad as a couple who are both relaxed and fun.

The wedding itself was held in the little village of East Hanningfield in Essex where the brides grandparents farm, which has been used for family weddings for generations, was the perfect place for the celebration this couple had in mind.

The ceremony itself was held in the village church, which provided the couple with the perfect excuse to borrow two vintage cars from the brides grandparents to help transport the wedding party back and forth.

When I got to the farm after the ceremony I was in awe. Ellie and Brad had opted to go down the DIY wedding route, doing a lot of the work themselves, and with the help of friends and family, had transformed this field into the perfect vintage styled wedding. They had this large marquee that had a clear proportion to the roof (highly recommend from a lighting perspective) and had strung fairy lights and Pom Poms garlands everywhere! It was supper eye catching and really jazzed up what could have been a very plain tent.

Other things the couples did were having home made pom poms in each place, they made the aisle decorations themselves, all the flowers were grown in the mother of the Brides garden, signs were all created themselves and I’m sure there’s more that I’m not aware of. This really shows what is possible when you want to go down the DIY wedding route and it really played off beaus everything looked wonderful!

Opting for something different the couple chose to have an Afternoon Tea for their wedding breakfast, which was provided by the amazing Very Vintage Tea Party company. Their team served up fizz, pots of tea and stands filled with scones, sandwiches and cakes, including the wedding cake from Ashbourne Bakes which we cut before our couples’ portraits and I recommend this- it’s nice to do it when the light is better and before the potential spillages at dinner.

The couple sat on a sweetheart table instead of a long top table and it was very cute to watch the two pour tea for each other, chat just the two of them and soak in the atmosphere of their big day without interruption.

To Top off what had been a very vintage wedding, Ellie and Brad had hired a band they’d seen at the Stables in Milton Keynes, The Blue Jays, a proper 5 Piece Rock and Roll Band- who were a massive hit! The dance floor was packed and everyone was grooving along! It always made for some awesome photos as Brad twirled Ellie around in her evening outfit! Then after the band finished, they put a collated playlist on, brought the smoke machine out and the night turned into boogying and pop pom throwing.

This day was honestly gorgeous and I had so much fun shooting it. It was so cool to shoot a wedding with such vintage vibes as someone who loves retro fashion and music, James (my assist for the day) and I were jamming to Chuck Berry the whole way home, exhausted from the log day but very Happy. Thank you to Ellie and Brad for having us!
